Last weekend, I had the privilege of attending FOSDEM 2023 as a speaker and a Fedora Ambassador. FOSDEM is one of the largest free and open-source software (FOSS) conferences in the world, held annually in Brussels, Belgium.
As a Fedora Ambassador, my main goal was to spread awareness about the Fedora project and engage with the FOSS community. In addition to participating in the event as a whole, I also had the opportunity to give a talk, alongside my colleague Jess Chitas, about the Creative Freedom Summit Retrospective as part of the Open Source Design Dev room.
The Creative Freedom Summit is a virtual event focused on promoting Open Source tools, spreading knowledge of how to use them, and connecting creatives across the FOSS ecosystem. The summit’s accomplishments and shortcomings were examined in light of the first year of the event, along with potential changes for the following years to come.
You can find a recording of the talk on FOSDEM’s website here.
The talk was well received by the audience, and it was heartening to see the level of interest and engagement around the topic. Many attendees were eager to learn more about how they could get involved in creative freedom through open-source technology.
Aside from my talk, I also had the chance to network with a wide range of individuals and organizations from the FOSS community. It was great to see so many passionate people
Attending FOSDEM 2023 as a Fedora Ambassador was a fantastic experience. Not only did I have the opportunity to engage with the FOSS community and spread awareness about the Fedora project, but I also had the chance to share my thoughts and experiences related to the Creative Freedom Summit Retrospective. I look forward to continuing to support and participate in the FOSS community in the years to come 🙂
