Flock is the annual contributor conference for the Fedora Project, the community behind Fedora Linux, a free & open-source operating system. Attendees had the opportunity to hear from inspiring speakers at the forefront of upstream Linux innovation, participate in engaging workshops to gain hands-on experience in the Fedora and RPM ecosystem, and network with fellow community members from around the globe. They also discovered the latest developments in Fedora Linux 42 and 43, and contributed their ideas to help shape the direction of the community. This year it was held in the historical city of Prague, Czech Republic!
The Fedora Design team led the branding for Flock 2025, combining elements of the conference’s location and culture with Fedora’s established brand identity.

Charles bridge was the main inspiration for the event’s branding. Using this unique piece of architecture, we were able to create designs that were specific to Prague.

For the name badge, we continued the tradition of featuring Colúr, our mascot, engaging in an activity or dressed in something relevant to the conference location. We explored various concepts, including a suggestion from locals regarding the Czech fairy tale of Honza.
“In original uses, Líný Honza is the lazy and inept son of village farmers. His parents send him “to the world” to take care of himself and get experience. On his way, he meets seemingly impossible obstacles (often involving a dragon) but outsmarts them all and returns home with fame, riches and a princess as his wife.” Wikipedia
There are also some depictions of Honza created by Josef Lada, a famous Czech illustrator. We used this illustration as the inspiration for the badge artwork.

Overall, we are very happy with how the branding came out! Each year, we are able to gain real-time feedback and are continuously finding ways to improve our processes. Onward to 2026! Thanks for reading 🙂
